The Southern Plainsman by Andru Hunter. The story takes
place in early 1870's Kansas and T.K. Ross returning to the
west after a long visit to his sister and brother in eastern
Pennsylvania, he finds a new life. T.K. is known as The
Southern Plainsman because of his genteel ways and
southern accent. But he is quick to anger and can turn into
a quick cold blooded killer. He has ridden the prairies with
his friends Billy Dixon, Buffalo Bill Cody and Wild Bill
Hickok since the end of the civil war. Now the moment has
come in his life when he must turn to the life of law and
order. To set down roots, start a family and settle into the
country he has roamed. He finds friendship in a gangly
Texan out for revenge, a Federal Judge named Markham,
and a community that welcomes him with open arms to
settle the cow town of Newton Kansas. The Southern
Plainsman was written as a fiction though the eyes of
fictional characters about real life people and legends of the
times. It is written as it would or could have happened then.
No Hollywood hype in this story. Read about the Cambridge
educated Indian Chief who knows lots about medicine,
along with his weakness for pie. Pete Lomax, who finds
love, the killers of his family and his herd of cattle with the
help and guidance from T.K. The real life story of the shoot
out in Newton Kansas know as the Massacre of Newton.
The Ross Family Saga starts here with T.K. Ross as the
patriarch, as he becomes a legendary U.S. Marshal that is
trusted by all and feared by the lawless.

New Historical Fiction Revisits the Plains of Kansas during
the Late 19th Century.
First-time author Andru Hunter looks to the past to create a
different kind of hero in The Southern Plainsman.
The Southern Plainsman by Andru Hunter is the story of
one man’s journey to personal greatness.
In The Southern Plainsman, T.K. Ross, a plainsman since
the Civil War, is witnessing the westward flow of settlers.
The wild ways of the Kansas prairies are now surrendering
to a new force. The Indians are nearly subdued, and the
buffalo are becoming sparse. Longing to settle down and
make a contribution to the community, T.K. takes his first
step toward taming the rough country of Newton, Kansas
and becomes a U.S. Marshal. With his new badge, he sets
out to find love, friendship, and a home, meeting along the
way, historical figures such as Wild Bill Hickok, Buffalo Bill
Cody, and Buffalo Billy Dixon.
While researching ancestors, the author came across a
relative who ultimately became the inspiration for the book’s
main character, and in keeping with the theme, the author
used real historical happenings and people where possible
to construct one exceptional story. Hunter easily captures
the danger that people faced in their everyday lives living on
the plains.
Encouraging readers to research their own history and
discover how ordinary people have extraordinary stories to
tell, this novel is wonderful addition to any home library. A
captivating read filled with excitement and adventure, The
Southern Plainsman proves heroes are just regular people
who rise to the challenge at hand.
